Boat restorations take time, most of the time a lot of time and for a long stretch... especially if you're doing it by yourself. Working with resins, adhesives, and paints in cool temps also takes longer.

You may want to consider starting sooner if you're a big fan of the spring spawn bite.

I know it's gonna take a lot of time and I have a back up plan for the spring, one of my good friends has a 20' Gambler that I can go with him on or he will let me use if he can't go. I'm only putting it off because of the striper fishing that will be gearing up around Thanksgiving, if you've never done that, hooking a 30lb+ fish that hits like Ray Lewis is something you can't miss out on.

i understand about the fish biting still....i was in a dilema yesterday.....start tabbing in my transom, or go fishing.....
my neighbor had catfish for dinner last night, so which one do you think i ended up doing

Hahaha...good choice my friend and I really appreciate all the knowledge I have already gotten without even starting. I love a good challenge and this is going to be one of my biggest ever.

But I only try to help when and where I can. I'm wrong some of the times but try to research before answering to make sure it's sound advice. I appreciate the kind remarks. Guys like you keep me posting!!!

Just reading through some older threads and came across yours. Just wondering if you've started your restore yet? Are you gonna use epoxy resin, or polyester? I'm doing a 1980 Tidecraft myself. I'm using the epoxy, which is more expensive, but superior to polyester. I also painted my bottom with epoxy and it looks great. There is, as you probably already know, a ton of info on here. I'll follow along once you get started, if you don't mind. Have a good weekend!

I have about 6 weeks until I start to pull it apart. Since we are coming up into winter it wouldn't matter if I had started yet, just hoping mother nature is good to us again this year. I'm going to use the polyester resin as per advice from WOG, my boat isn't that large so I'm not really concerned about the extra strength but more so about being waterproof. Not sure what I'm going to find when I pull the cap but I have always lived by one thing: Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
