hello,

I notcied last time my engine wouldnt trim up all the way. I checked around and notcied i was running low on hydraulic fuild because my port side trim cylinder/ram was leaking at the bottom near the threads. I believe it is a style 'A' with double rams and the pump and res. mounted inside the boat.

i am not sure if it is possible to get the rams/cylinders out easily and to check the gasket. so far i am yet to see anything remotely close to my set up. the bottom again threads into the cap. I was told part number 79114A4 is the replacement but it doesn't look like it has the threading into the bottom cap/cup.

any help or insight would be tremendously appreicated!

thank you and take care!

Thats the correct part number for trim cylinder and kits are NLA , take it apart and go to a seal supplier and get new o-rings....

Thanks! Any idea how to remove it!? I though it could just slide the shaft out of the bottom and top and it would fall out. But the shaft at the bottom is pinned between the two plates....

Ok, the pictures show the three trim cylinders. A single trim cylinder for tilt and two cylinders for trim. Can you loosen the manual release and tilt it by hand? Second choice is to loosen the hydraulic lines and let the oil run out as you lift the motor up to tilt position. Make sure to lock it up.

This motor only has 2 cylinders as pump in boat and mounting bolts are hollow as fluid goes thru them.... Block it up and take out the upper pisa and lower bolts. Tap lower shaft to sideways to drop cylinder/s.

This is the problem. You cannot simply tap out the bottom and top pins. the bottom pins are sandwiched between the engine mounting plates. apparently i have to remove the engine, seperate the plates slide the unit out, remove the leaky cylinder.

does anyone know how or if there is a cylinder repair kit avialable for the cylinder 79114A4 ??? I've been looking but no luck.... rather try to repair it than spend 400+ dollars on a new/used one.

There is no repair kits for those cylinders and its just o-rings anyway. To remove cylinder/s there are to small oval covers with 2 bolts on swivel bracket, remove covers an screw in a bolt and pull the top pins out.. PM me you Email and will send you a PDF out of old service manual.

It's back... and leaking again... haha... The first time around I put teflon in... a teflon tape recommended by a local hydraulic repair place... However it's starting again/// I will try to pull it apart and redo it again... I'm afraid to use a sealant as I am aware of the difficulties in getting it back out...

I was also told it shouldnt need the teflon or the fancy hydraulic red pipe dope...

I'm trying to avoid pulling the engine off to replace the whole cylinder if possible...
