1979 vs 1993 Evinude 115HP

Hi All,

I am looking for a smaller ski boat to use in my local area. I looked at both a 1979 and 1993 models with the same HP motor. Both are stated to be fresh water and I will use it the same way.

I am guessing the 79 is 115hp at the crank and the 93 is 115 at the prop and the 93 has oil injection.

Do you recommend these motors overall?

Is one better than the other?

Would you disconnect the oil injection on the 93? I have read some posts about this and VRO's.

I will have the boat I lean toward checked out by a marine mechanic with all the usual tests...compression/lower end/spark. This is a must, i have already been saved major headachs by doing this prior to buying.

Both boats are about 1000 to 1100 lbs without the motor, so I am wondering about performance as well.

Both motors are the same basic design, a V4 crossflow. While the 93 has oil injection it does not use a VRO pump. Personally, I wouldn't have a motor without oil injection. Even if you bought the 79, if it were me, I'd put oil injection on it.

Both motors will make about the same torque so if each were on the same boat I doubt you'd see any difference. If both boats are relatively the same I'd go for the newer one - just thinking ahead for resale value.

Basically it boils down to which boat you like the best vs. $$. And you can always upgrade the motor no matter which boat you choose.
