Hello board. New here today, looking for info on a fiberglass restore.Picked this boat up a week ago, decided she was in need of help. Very solid boat, and a very fresh engine. Needs a face lift on the exterior and some interior work.

Re: 1979 Welcraft Suncruiser 255

This boat started out in Lake Norman Nc, went to Ohio, and I found it in Myrtle beach, never been in the ocean. I am going to fix the hull. It looks like clear coat has been sprayed on it and it is flaking. I really haven't had enough info at hand to decide which way to paint it. Easypoxy, Imron, Awlgrip... ugggh. So since it is cool here I started with the interior, ripped it out today.

A lot of work, but worth it, they're sweet boats when done up.
Here's a pic from the one at my boat yard  enjoyed a beer or two on that one

That boat has been taken care of. I see the same seats I have. Hopefully I will get mine looking that shiny. I give myself 2 months until complete. We shall see.

I've known that boat for a bunch of years and it wasn't always that nice, it just takes the right owner. Look forward to seeing your progress!

Thanks JBF I checked that site out. I need all the info I can get. I kinda sold my soul buying a glass boat. LOL I know mahogany well, so this is a new challenge.

Whoa! that's a sweet mahogany boat dude! what is it? Never had a wood boat, though my last one was a fiberform and I tried to convert it LOL...pasted a lot of mahogany on her.

Re: 1979 Welcraft Suncruiser 255

SHe is a 1966 Tollycraft 17'. She is more in the preserved class than restore. All original wood. Removed the original glass off the deck and varnished. Refinished the hull too. If you look at the splash guard starboard side you can see the wood dark there. I currently have the interior out and taking care of the bilge side with CPES. I hate pointing out her flaws but it is what it is.

Has anyone used CPES from the Rot Doctor on fiberglass boats here?

Got both the trim tabs working, had to bleed the air out and fiddle with the switch a little. The outboard tilt works good now also for the same reasons. The wiring in the engine looks factory but still has some spaghetti going on. So that will be next!

Here is a little of the inside. I am going to put some varnish on this mahogany. Tore all the back seat out. Going to rebuild it, and vinyl it myself. First attempt at sewing with tubing.

Re: 1979 Welcraft Suncruiser 255

Finally really tore into the interior today. Got the colors picked out and fabric purchased. Put some fresh varnish on the wood. Tore the head out to give more room, will reinstall, but will not be an enclosed head. Decided to put some wood extras on the floor trimmed with mirror polished stainless.

Started on the wall fabric, that flowery stuff is ugly! Thinking about putting in a wood floor. I really like the look of it.

this is getting interesting...big cabin without the enclosed head, you could practically add a berth and some storage in that area
