1980 115 Mercury Carb ID

where do i find the numbers to know what type carbs i have on my 115 merc?
just bought boat trie to start it and fuel is leaking from carbs, getting fire to plugs so i figure it is in need of carbs rebuilt, thanks for any input.

I found the identifyin' numbers under the choke buterflies on me 1977 1500.

I used a small mirror n' had me specticles on as well.

Me thinks the carbs are sooooooo similar on all 115(s)/1150(s) that the rebuild kits you can buy here on iboats will werk jus' fine on all of 'em.

Make sure the carbs are where the leaks are coming from (as alcohol is real hard on those old fuel lines).

thanks JR, i found them finally,lol. the boat has set for a while and i could see fuel leaking from the bottoms of the carbs, heck it can only help to rebuild them any way, right? another question is can mixed fuel go bad? i was wondering if maybe that is why it is not cranking.

I never fix something that isn't broke, but that is just me, so if it floats yer boat to rebuild yer carbs by all means: have at it.

If the fuel lines are leaking I hope you know that rebuilding yer carbs will not fix those fuel line leaks.

BTW you will need to linc n' sync if you do the carb rebuild as well.

One of the first things I do is check the fuel tank for water before fillin' it up with fresh fuel, (mid grade without alcohol if you can find it). BTW it is VERY wet in Seattle as it rains nearly all the time.

I never EVER crank an engine with fuel of unknown age or quality, unless you really like to werk on yer fuel system, I suggest you take my advice and follow my lead on this matter.

Pre mix fuel does last much longer then unmixed fuel, and if you have fuel at the end of the season you should stabilize it with a fuel stabalizer.
