Hey guys my 1980 Evinrude 140 hp shuts off when i put her in neutral, i have been fixing this boat and haven't gotten a chance to put it in the water just yet. I can open the throttle and start her up and drop the rpms down slowly but once it gets to neutral it idles between 700-800 for a couple of seconds ( around 10 seconds to be exact) and then dies, what could be the problem?

are you using muffs, or what method of cooling? have you cleaned and rebuilt the carbs?

700-800 RPM on muffs is usually not fast enough on muffs. Use your warm-up lever until the engine reaches operating temperature. When you have the boat on the water, reset the idle to 650 RPM in gear.
