Hi Guys
New to the Forum!
I purchased a 1980 17' Tempest Inboard Outboard with a 140HP 3.0L Mercruiser for $800 from an auction.
so here goes:
The engine and outboard are in working condition but it requires an impeller and exhaust bellows.
The floors had soft spots and up front it had a plywood patch covered by carpet looks like the work of the previous owner.
The seats are ripped and the bottom of the bases are rotted.
Here is what I have done so far 1 day of work:
Ripped out the seats, engine cover, side trim, carpet.
I put my foot trough the floor so I got the angle grinder and cut out the entire floor and the plywood just crumbled into a wet mess.
There was about 6" of water between the front engine mount and the mid section of the boat. The was no drain holes between the bow and stern so all of the water was just sitting in the bottom rotting the floors and stringers and the engine mount.
I removed the water soaked flotation foam. and cleaned up the mess.
The stringers were nothing more than 3/4" ply on its side encased in fiberglass.
I have to remove the engine to get more room in the back to work and also check the transom and see if that is rotted to hell.
The saga continues one day at a time!
