1980 4.5hp evinrude won't run........

I bought her April this year and have had done and experienced the following:
1) B-4 ever taking her out had the impeller & housing replaced / carb; cleaned since mechanic said she wouldn't go past 3/4 throttle..
2) Ran great til last w/e...Now will not start
3) I removed plugs and have spark..Then I cleaned plugs w/carb; cleaner..let dry...dipped in fuel, immediately replaced and she fired right up, then died.
4) I replaced leaking fuel connector between tank and engine..
5)I removed screw to metal fuel filter screen ON engine to make sure fuel was getting to that point..IT SURE is getting there!
6) Vent on gas tank is open,,and I use non-ethanol gas..
*7) The ONLY thing I forgot last time out was to unhook fuel line and run out fuel in carb: That was an 8 day period.
SURE WOULD appreciate some ideas,,
All I can figure is fuel diaphram/pump went bad....But why then would it run last time out all the way back home? Baffled

do a compresion test,
if 4 bar/cyl will not start
6 bar and more will run

slow speed needle 1,5 turn out

How did you check your spark ??

as mentioned, a compression test and real spark test will tell you alot. you can try by-passing the fuel pump by connecting the tank directly to the carb and gravity feed it. you will need to set the tank on a stand of some sort to get it above the carb tho.

When I first took out plugs after pulling my arm out of socket trying to start,,,,they were dry....shouldn't they of been wet if fuel was reaching cyl?

How did you check your spark ??

Pulled plugs,,,,laid them down hooked up to wires,,made sure they were grounded and pulled rope...
Visually saw sparks

les then 60psi per cyl motor wil start and run on choke on only,
80 and more per cylinder motor will run fine

you need to verify a 7/16 open air jump for spark on that motor. the tool is quite cheap, and available at most auto parts stores. ( dont forget to ground the other plug when testing....some electronic ignitions will fail do to not having both plugs grounded)

I forgot to mention my eng; has an internal tank also. I have never tried to use that tank. I noticed yest; that the internal tank line does not pass thru the fuel pump. Goes directly to carb;.So my ? is can I try gravity feed of fuel w/that tank..In other words will my eng; run, or need fuel pump if using internal tank ?

if the filter is there and ok. by all means try the internal tank, as it is gravity feed to the carb.

go to "fuel tank" and have a look, it may be hidden behind this or that, but should be there.
