i am in he process of re-rigging my boat..i have the motor hung and control cables hooked up and all seem to be fine but when i go from forward or reverse back to neutral i have to push the warm up lever back to the down position..just a touch maybe 1.5" or so..could this be cause my cables are way to long for my boat

warm up lever should have to be all the way down in order to shift into gear..you may have something loose inside your control box. if your warm up lever is popping up the plastic clip that holds it down may be broken. the cables can be looped in a large circle if they are too long.

Sounds like you don't have your cables adjusted right at the mtr. Before attaching the cables to the mtr have the warm up lever all the way down and then install the cables with the proper adjustments back on the mtr.
