That transom kit on ebay is not OEM. I'm with Bondo.

Ayuh,... Sierra #18-8205 is the transom seal kit, with the exhaust tube, insteada the bellows(no exhaust bellows expander needed)...

Accordin' to yer serial number, 18-2248 oughta be the shift cable,...

18-3317 should be the water pump kit,...

Awesome job Bondo and thanks for that I bookmark it all and I will order it as soon as I get the cash from original owner. Once again thanks everyone and when I get parts I will start up the thread to leave off or if I have any other questions from now until then.

All parts are in attempting today to go out and get started. Prop is removed, throttle in forward gear and now time to remove shift cable from top of engine inside boat. This way when I remove stern drive it will feed out nice and easy and not kinking. Wish me luck and if I'm missing something please let me know. Oh and extra pair of hands for the drive when it comes off since its weight could make it rather difficult removing.

Okay drive has been removed, I made sure drive was in forward gear prior to removal. Hardest thing was getting that drive to come off the bolts but finally got it and did it by myself without that extra help! Wasn't really all that heavy but I cheated and tied up the eye lid to prevent tip over.

Took me awhile to figure out how the shift cable comes undone. I did measure all that I could think of so when I return the new one I will match or readjust as needed. What I didn't know is I need that extra deep thin walled 9/16" socket and I have one that fits on but wasn't a deep one so I wasn't able to get the shift cable sheath off with boot. Hopefully this week I will get that socket as I know I can order the tool but it appears Sears sells it or maybe Harbor Freight the socket so I might just check there. All in all wasn't difficult and now the drive is hanging in my garage I drained the oil out of it and plan to replace impeller.

Can anyone explain to me the correct installation directions so that I don't screw anything up putting back together? What tools, greese, etc I may need. I have read a few sites that explain some installation instructions but before I follow those, I thought I ask what your guys experiences are with this. Some may have some work around's that worked for them.

By the way the above links didn't help a lot, and when I referenced to a section of the manual (6) it wouldn't show anything so not sure what I did wrong.

On the tool, the socket you mention.... just for future reference, the long plastic tube at the end of the cable that necessitates the extra long socket - that tube simply unscrews, then you can use a regular, deep well Craftsman 12 point socket.

Ayuh,.... Yer old cable liner, may not unscrew, so just cut it off, it's junk anyways,....

The new cable, the liner unscrews, so a regular deep socket is just fine,...

White portion did unscrew but as for getting that black cable liner out isn't easy! I did use regular socket to undo that gold fitting attached to the cable liner. Since it is junk and I'm getting some resistance I might as well just cut it like you said. I think though the liner is getting hung up on the rubber boot but we see. Thanks for your advice guys.

Next order of buisness when I re-install this what steps do I need to take? Items I may need like greese, adhesive, lock-tite? Not saying I need any of this but just wanted to know. And the procedures to follow putting drive back on has anyone got the easiest directions?
