Hey, you wrote to my post, and through some searching, i've found yours and would be glad to tell you all i know about the "Mysterious Red Piece" I have no idea what the name of the piece is, only a rough idea of what it does in mine. It is used via a small spring to stop the recoil started from being used while the unit is in gear. Beyond that, i'm not sure what it does. If it is the same piece i'm thinking of, its located under the flywheel at the front right side of the engine comp. beside the starter. You don't want to know what is intaled in merely removing the screw that holds it on and replacing it. but if you do want a step by step, just e-mail me at
