hey guys I got a really good line on a 1980 evinrude 50 hp outboard model
#E50ELCSR, I was wondering if anyone has any info on them like reliablilty speed etc? I was just wondering if this would be a good motor to be good enough to pull a tube around behind the boat ? and get descent speed when heading to the fishing hole etc. Any ideas on mph with it? and any other input would be great, thanks guys

Look-charged motor with V-block reeds, nothing more modern than an E-Tec. As shortshaft they were used in OPC racing, very fast, high winding motor with lots of acceleration. Compression should be above 135 psi. Actually, in that hp range, there is nothing better built today.

really? so this motor is the better of its time? The motor i am looking at is long shaft but it will fit my boat perfectly, how well would it push an old 16' runabout boat?

Not enough information. What "old 16' runabout boat?" What's the max hp on the boat's tag? What hull design? Might go 30 or it might go in the 40s. It all depends on the boat.

Give us more information.

sorry 1970 red fisher, no transom plate nothing its an old boat ownership is buried somewhere but biasically just a hull with a motor, I don't see the boat even weighing 1000 lbs but it being old maybe a little water logged but its in great shape minus the paint

It should do something in the mid-30s, then. Fix the waterlogging, and it might do a little better.

the water logging is jsut a guess as the boat has sat for about 5 years sicne last use but it has been stored indoors jsut nvr opened the floors up to see if shes wet or not.
