Good day Gents.... We all read stories about people and how they manage to do some of the oddest things....

Well I just did one of those knuckelheaded things..

I was helping out a buddy, I pulled my battery installed it into my friends boat, fixed his problem, re-installed the battery into my boat and low and behold i installed the battery cables backwards (reverse polarity)

BOY it made a loud POP when I switched from my primary battery to my secondary (back up) battery..

Anyway, I lost my tach, so I installed my old recifier and the tach responds very lazy, it isnt reading properly at idel or when i rev up the motor. I am not real sure of the condition of the old recifier but is there a possibility I damaged more than just the recifier???

Forgive me, I did a search and i couldnt find this topic in the help or search section...

A voltage regulator can partially fail. My bet is that you need a nice shiny new one.

Should I be able to see the volt gauge reading 13 volts while running at idle on the trailer?

Or since it is a stator it needs to be running at higher rpm to show a charge?

It should be showing a charge even at idle, I beleive right around the 13V range, anywhere from 12.8 - 13.2, something like that. I would use a meter on your battery as opposed to the dash gauge though.

Yea, I did... the battery voltage is 12.7 or so, even running just off of idel it still shows 12.7. So I would have to assume the regulator is bad as well, at least half of it.
