you could push the throttle lever back and make it idle though, right? The shift cable should push it all the way to where the idle adjustment screw hits the block when in neutral. If it doesn't, turn the shift cable adjustment to make it push tight in neutral. Make sure you don't get it too tight or it will make the shift lever hard to push.

Thanks for the knowledge. I adjusted the cable like you had mentioned and that fixed the problem. So far all else is doing great.
