1980 Johnson 35hp elect start, elect choke, remote steering will not start.

MAR 25, 2004<br /><br />Have a 1980 Johnson 35hp that will not start. New rebuilt starter. Turns strong. It will fire one time right at starter engagment, but then nothing. Any idea what to check first and how? Thanks!

Did you check on your fuel supply?

Plenty of fuel/oil mix. Getting fuel. Compression good. Sparks on top cyl but not bottom. Hits once when turn key, but not twice. One cyl firing once.

I switched Ignition Coils this morning, but still can't get bottom cylinder to fire. Both coils appear to be operating fine. Anyone know what is upstream that may be malfunctioning on the bottom cylinder of my 1980 Johnson 35hp Electric Start outboard? Thanks!

check the fly wheel key it could be broken

sounds like fuel probs, mate. when was last time they were rebuilt, or atleast taken apart and cleaned.. real simple job.

I removed and cleaned the carb 8 days ago.<br />Since both Ignition Coils are working fine seems like it may be the CDI...what do you guys think?<br />Al

What compression is the right for a 1980 35hp johnson motor?
I have a Seloc Manual what do you thing about this?
