Picked up a 14ft Malibu a couple of weeks ago. She needs some tlc but should turn out to be one fine little boat.

You can't see it but the floor near the drain in front of the bench was weak so I had to get it repaired.

I thought I was ready for painting till I noticed the bench had bad spots under the wood casing. Any ideas on an easy fix?

Open to suggestions...I couldn't stand not painting so I primered the front 2/3 of the boat today. Coming along nicely so far...

Gonna finish priming everything but the bench tomorrow...until then what to do about the bench???

Hello walt and welcome to Iboats :) .

Welp...your going to have to open those cracks up..explore a little. Its going to have to dry out first off ( hope there isnt any further damage ).

Grind/bevel and put a few layers of 1.5 oz mat/poly over it..sand smooth and prime.

Re: 1980 Malibu Dixie Restore

Thanks Dr

I took the boat to a local guy that is renowned for fiberglass work and he is grinding down the bench and repairing it, as well as a weak spot after the bench. He is even fixing the rear right corner of the boat where the previous owner apparently hit something and took a chunk out of it. I will get it back on Friday :) The 25Evinrude is waiting on a power pack and she will be roaring back to life. I need to replace her prop asap as its all out of shape.

Got the boat back today. Needs some sanding where fixed but I was able to put a second coat of primer on other areas of the boat. Coming along nicely...

Well, I painted the inner transom with 3 coats of Oyster Shell White this afternoon since my motor is done and I need to pick it up tomorrow. I also finished removing the rub rail. Gonna need to get that fixed...

Well, I managed to get two coats of Oyster Shell White on the entire inside (not counting storage) and she is looking nice. That third coat will seal the deal. I'm afraid to get in her and get her dirty, lol. Is it standard procedure to wax the gunnels and sides of the interior? I think that would really shine!!!
Sorry these are a little dark, I took them in my shop...

Finished the third coat tonight. Can't wait to start putting on hardware. Quick question. Can I brush on clear coat?

Whose paint and clear coat are you using? I personally had poor luck with Rustoleum's clear on my last boat. It started chalking and flaking pretty quickly. The rest of the paint was fine.

^^ agree.. Ive heard of oyster white..and shell white..but never oystershell white.. What product ?

Did you have to reprep after each coat..or just keep coating it ?

Never heard of a brushable clear unless its varnish ;) ..
