I'd just be concerned with the flammability of the product and it's resistance to heat from the motor..that being said mine seems to be just plain foam!

Re: 1980 mercury 140 LOUD!!!!

Merc put fiberglas blankets wrapped in clear plastic on the inside of the cowlings on later model towers. As I recall my '89 115 had one.

After they drastically changed their designs (in '90 as I recall) they used a fiberglass bonnet with glued in foam whereever they could find a place to stick in....on the underside of the cowl.

On flammability, some foams are sprayed with chemicals to reduce the possibility. I don't know why you couldn't "contact cement" after a thorough cleaning a layer on the inside of the cowl.

There really isn't anything inside generating an open flame and the engines don't have any really hot components, so I wouldn't be too worried about flammability.....I mean like gasoline fumes are all over the inside already, and it runs on gas....how much more flammable can you get....Ok Acetone to name one.
