Ah, no not really! Jason wanting pour in foam..... dude, did you get bitten by a zombie or something?

Don't worry, Jas'll change his mind on his next early morning run! After all, we're talking about the buoyancy bottle king here! :D

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

I think I have figured out how to use expanding foam AND still maintain proper drainage (my biggest beef with the pour in).

Further, I think I have figured out how to reduce the cost some (my second biggest beef with the pour in).

Further yet, I am almost certain that this Sea Nymph will be a foamed boat!:eek::D

Well let's hear it. i also have an idea for the same thing. Mine involves channeling. I do think expando and AL boats can co-exist if done properly. Hint - not the way the tinny factories execute because that is a floor/deck death sentence.

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Ok guys, something very interesting happened to me this morning. Very interesting indeed!

Then I climbed out and went for a run. Beautiful morning here in MI, caught the sunrise, prolly 60 degrees, just a great morning:)

More thinking on my run...

Okay, it is official, he got "steven King'ed" on his morning run, i will swear by this.......

Jas, my man, what was in THAT coffee????

all kidding aside, watching to see how this develops ............... especially the cost part ............

73 - Zombie? Yah, I got bit a couple of time a few days ago. They just seem to come right out of the farm fields as I run by. I wasn't aware that going with a foamed boat would be the symptoms though:eek:

TII - Oh yah, we'll get some soap jug action on this one too:D

GA - I hear ya. I've actually been thinking about this expanding foam since I've joined iboats - stewing about how it could possibly work. Funny thing is I actually wrote it off as basically not doable the other day. Because I'm slow, I suppose it took me that long to come up with something that might just work.

Dave - Yah man, expanding foam is silly expensive, wow!!! So, some creativity will need to be in effect to keep the costs down ;)

Lapline - You know, maybe I'll shoot some video in the next few days describing what I am thinking and we can kick around some ideas here. I'm certainly in no rush for this job.

Thanks for stopping by guys!

-----------------------------------------------------

Last night I got some more demo done. Pulled a bunch more stuff off, cleats, grab rails, bolts, fittings, yada, yada. I dug out more foam, man what a pain to get that stuff out of the tight spots. Still have more to dig, ugh.......

I got the transom out too. I didn't bother taking any photos of that process as the ENTIRE thing was wasted. I cant even call it mulch, it was more like wet leaves, unbelievable. I kinda just ran my hand over it and it fell into the bilge. There was nothing that resembled wood anywhere. I still can't believe there was an outboard rigged and ready to run on this boat when I bought it:rolleyes:

I also finally got that vintage Evinrude trolling motor off. I left the grinder in the box though. My BurnzoMatic was the tool of the day instead. Man, that TM put up a good fight, took some flesh and blood off me, but in the end I won:cool:

All that's left is some foam to dig and the rub rails to come off the hull sides then she'll be done for a while.

Hey, I think today is Friday!:D

Here's where I'm at, all the rigging pulled off. A couple more digging sessions I should have the the foam just about out of there...

As we don't have a power TNT on our yammie, I'm jealous of your new TNT. Looks like...fertilizer coming out of the transom.

+1 for the water meet! I stopped to pick up a cover for my Jet that Jason had... he hooked me up far beyond what I had expected! Showed me the tinnies too... he sure is moving along, and wow the Islander is looking bad arse!!! Totally cool!

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Yah, I spent some time with Elmers glue and that transom material trying to put it back together for a template - it was a pretty difficult task. So, I suppose I'll need to go with a card board template from scratch eh:rolleyes:

Yup, Chief has a bad case of the MBS:eek: Though, the lady friend he was with seems to tolerate his boat gathering behavior so it's all good:)

There is a procedure for reorienting the mulch molecules into a coherent representaion of the original transom...

Contact the Federation and ask for some time with either their Transporter or Replicator...should only take a few seconds...

Cardboard might also be a good option...:p:D

Have a great Sunday, Bro...

Hi Guys:

I'd like to add my two cents worth of support for dozer's suggestion. I've actually been thinking of that product for the same purpose. I think it'll work just fine.

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

I never seen SuperSeal as a brand name product, but it reminded me of Schluter-Ditra, which has less then 1/2 the profile (1/8" vs 5/16") of the SuperSeal, and is available at most HD/Lowes esp out west in the US. @East coast it may be less prevalent. Also major cities w/ large tile supply stores, should have it available too, 1/2 the larger commercial tile outlets in Las Vegas sold to the public. It comes in more manageable lengths then the SuperSeal does (65ft roll is the only size shown)..... That's a bunch of tinny's needing to be foamed & floored. The Ditra also is an entirely plastic product, no fabric, see below.....

I can't remember the product, but there is another foundation 'blanket', keep water out of your basement, type product that has a similar fabric back, nubbed face that might work too. But depending on the expansion rate/force and area to be foamed, the foam may distort the fabric or penetrate it enough to grab the hull & defeat some of the intended purpose.

Maybe someone can find a foundation contractor or GC that would let them have some of the cutoffs on a current job for testing......

Interesting idea though....
