Yah fellas, I'm scratching my head on gauge colors at the moment. I bought a nice set of white gauges for this SN. Well, I actually now think black faced gauges would look a little bit sharper. I have a set of those but the temp is made for the IO. Soooooo, Idunno.

What I really need is a temp gauge that looks just like this...

...but is made for the OB, C/H.

Bah, we'll see. I could just skip the temp gauge and stick a compass in that 3rd hole

Yah, I have this white faced one that came with the sender and all...

I'm just thinking the black would match the scheme a bunch better. I'll chew on it for a minute and get it figured.

I know you have been sanding a whole lot lately GT but, uh, well, I do believe some side effects might be a bit of an issue now buddy:facepalm:

Allllllrighty!

The Teleflex Xtreme Steering System is installed and Evinrude is bolted on!!

As a big thanks to Teleflex for sending me the sample I'd like to show the super abbreviated step by step on how to install one of these rotary systems.

The first thing I needed to do was take the measurement. If you are just replacing a current system you can take the measurements off the current cable. In my case this was a new install, so, measurements work like this: A (center of steering shaft to the gunwale) + B (back to where the cable will exit the gunwale) + C (over to the OB centerline) = Length. In my case I was right about in the eleven and a half foot range so round up to twelve feet. This measurement is very important as too long or too short make for big trouble!

As you can see there really isn't much too it. I love that there are basically only a few parts, less stuff to put together, less stuff to break, less stuff to maintain

So here's what I'm starting with, big bare chunk of aluminum...

Cutout template is provided...

Watch how easy this is!

Three bolts for the bracket...

Three more bolts for the steering shaft...

Here's what the rotary system looks like from below...

Then two screws for the bezel (I used to stainless bolts with lock nuts with the alum dash)...

This is called a Woodruff Key...

It slides right in this notch here in the steering shaft and the steering wheel slides over it, for well you know, making the boat turn...

Here's my stainless steel steering wheel, super sharp! I found it on a dead/rotting fiberglass boat that I put out to pasture. If you don't have one of those laying around you can pick up something like this from your favorite marine dealer

Slide it into place and wrench it down with a washer and lock nut...

K, that's it for the helm assembly!

Now, on to the cable.

There are two spigots on the helm there. The upper one is the cable entry. See, right here...

Pull the pin but DO NOT REMOVE THE TAG!!!! Why? Because they (Teleflex) said so!!!!
(I'll take that tag off later when nobody is looken...)

So now, I removed the protective sleeve for the cable end and start feeding it into the spigot...

When it stops, it's time for action. Turn the steering wheel counter clockwise pulling the cable into the helm. I do believe I heard two distinct "clicks". First was the gears engaging and the second was the end of the cable making the connection into the helm...

Then I took the pin and inserted it inline with the cable like yo...

Spent Travel Tube...

Goes right down here in the lower spigot, and the pin in place...

Cable is done!

Now it's time for the cable connection to the OB. I think in just about all situations the OB needs to be off the boat to make this work. So my Evinrude 90 is on the chainfall and I ease the boat in with the tractor...

If you don't have a tractor you'll certainly need to buy one otherwise none of this will work. You can tell your wife this is in fact the case.

Nice and easy back it up to the OB...

Nice coating of marine grease on the output ram...

"AHYAH ANY GREASE" is what I always use, great stuff.

Slide it into the tube...

...and lock it down.

Then make the steering arm connection...

Now bolt on the outboard. Four big fat stainless bolts, some big fender washers and a bunch of 5200...

1984 Evinrude 90 HP is in place!

Dood, came off the dead glasser man! They are on eBay pretty regular for like $50 or so.

Um yah, I'm not a "go boat" kinda guy so I am wondering just what kinda power I bolted on there

Great work on the motor and Puma steering install. In the pics it looks like the motor is sitting kind of high on the transom. I'm not sure if it's the pic or my one bad eye though

Now you or just hurting my feelings. You get to pull your nice new boat around in the yard with a big tractor and back it up into the shed to a beautiful rude and hookup all that great looking steering While I'm out in the sun at 104 degress sanding and grinding glass.

That rig just keeps getting better.
