Please stop giving the serial killer IDEAS!!! He doesn't need any more encouragement to saw up glassers. Little lone a new way to dispose of the deceased. :)

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

So's I get my mail late yesterday after work, and somewhere in the pile of junk and election carp, there's this small innocuous white envelope with some scribblings on it...hmmmmm, what could it be...another politician with a new way to advertise?... a new unexpected bill I somehow forgot to pay?...

Nope...probably the nicest thing I have gotten in the mail since the last time the big brown truck dropped something off...

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Guys, the pleasure is mine. Seriously, it's my thanks to you all:)

------------------------------------------

K, slow progress on the stern bench build. I kinda had 2 steps forward one step back sorta deal. I'll get there though;)

Hey, here's a boat related update though...

Something I have always wanted to learn how to do is weld. I've been really frustrated over the years that I didn't ever take a welding class high school. I know I would have used that knowledge waaaayyyyyy more than the Calculus class I struggled though:rolleyes:

Anyhow, I've been taking a welding class at the local community college. We've only had three classes so far but...

I know I'll never be hired as a "welder" but I think I feel pretty good making repairs on boat trailers now:)

Welds look pretty good to me, just remember real world application all depends on the prep. :D

Those MIG welds or AC? or DC ARC welds? Look decent to me..

Jas, Thanks for the Powered By tag. Now I can't say anything bad about you, although never have.

Nice bead, I see a welder making to your shop very soon.

Then you will end up with a TIG. Soon you'll be building your own Tinny's.

Have a great day.

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Whoops sorry, forgot the details!

Let's see, 1/4" steel, ARC DC, horizontal position, 6010 1/8" rod, 85 amps. I tried to break em with my bare hands and had a really hard time:D

Yah, I'd love to move on to TIG and get good enough to build an alum OB bracket but I know that is a totally different game. I'll never be good enough to do that kind of work. But, I do hope my skilz will be sufficient to patch up boat/utility trailer issues;)

Awww, don't go to easy on him now guys. I got a sticker too (thanks jas). I propose a moratorium on Junk Punches and Jimmy Kicks until next month. Then back to normal business.:p

Beads look real good bro. You're right aluminum is a whole different story. I like the brazing rod I used on the Sea Scamp. Works great but I think the learning curve is kinda steep. Use map gas or oxy-acetalene to get the proper heat. I've got some cracks on the 14' I need to braze up.

Keep up the good work.

Nice, lets see some verticals, and overheads!!!! or you must just adjust the trailer to make it a nice flat !!!!

Ahh you need to learn MIG and find yourself a millermatic 210 with spool gun, combined with an arc for outside work you can do almost anything except welding beer cans together! Spool gun works great on 3/16" material and up. Welding is definitely a practical skill to have, I learned out of bottom feeder necessity years ago, self taught. Not always the prettiest but always holds.

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

not trying to pick the maze outta yo poop, but 3/32 takes at least 90 amps, with 60ocv to strike an arc. so.....1/8 is gonna need 130 amps, even on 1/4 material. however, that pix of the weld says u ain't gonna get it apart with just two hands.....;-)

Very nice bead there Jason. I'm self taught with stick and mig, mig has a way easier learning curve, flux core wire feed is also pretty easy to learn. There is a really good welding forum here.... http://weldingweb.com/
Lots of info and cool projects.
Boat is looking better every time I check your thread. Nice work!
