Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

not trying to pick the maze outta yo poop, but 3/32 takes at least 90 amps, with 60ocv to strike an arc. so.....1/8 is gonna need 130 amps, even on 1/4 material. however, that pix of the weld says u ain't gonna get it apart with just two hands.....;-)

Ya I thought the same thing, just wasnt gonna bust him on it. LOL

K, slow progress on the stern bench build. I kinda had 2 steps forward one step back sorta deal. I'll get there though;)

Hey, here's a boat related update though...

Something I have always wanted to learn how to do is weld. I've been really frustrated over the years that I didn't ever take a welding class high school. I know I would have used that knowledge waaaayyyyyy more than the Calculus class I struggled though

Anyhow, I've been taking a welding class at the local community college. We've only had three classes so far but...

Gloves really they make you wear gloves! They prolly make you wear a welding hood too! You gotta learn how to weld with no PPE while standing in water wearing flip flops.

J thanx for the sticker always wanted one for the rig got your back except when you bash glassers. Nice beads just beginnin is fun but stick with the stick and get all 4 positions down before moving on migs easy tigs a ll harder but your not a welder until you master stick period! I was taught by 2 Alaskan pipline welders and all they preached was stick ,stick, stick we could not move onto mig or tig until we passed all four positions.

Yeah, learning up hill, down hill, over head or all good things to know with stick welding. When working in the field its not always going to be flat welding.
Your beads look good to me. You just might add welder to your can do list.:D

Hey fellas, yah sorry, 85 VOLTS, 135 AMPS - got my volts and amps mixed up there:redface:

The sticka gave my boat super powers!

From here on you will catch more fish, your OB will run10 mph faster and way quieter, and women will find you better looking!:D

Well I can finally post up a progress photo here, eh@

I've installed the deck piece with a 4' long stainless piano hinge bedded in 5200 for extra strength...

This had to come first as everything else must be measured off of this height, and built down from there. Next piece to be added is the back pad.

Have a great Trick R Treat day fellas!:D

Lookin nice! Bro...

Got a question/Idea...

I know you need the splash well, as do all the outboards I have seen so far, but could you install either a wood or metal grate over the opening to still allow drainage yet provide a safer place to put your foot for balance...? Especially since it is on the same plane as the rest of the casting deck...

Happy Hump Day!

Hey I didn't know you had trim tabs on there...does you tramsom go down far enough so you could screw into it, or are they just into the metal? I've thought about adding them, but my transom doesn't go all the way to the bottom.....

??? ??/ The trim tabs on Bear's glasser Key West boat:

Brutha dood! The sticka gave my boat super powers! Thanks man!

Might try some of Jas' strong brew coffee when you get a chance this am;)

But yeah, Bear's transom likely goes all the way down, being a glasser & all...

Jason, you the Man, awsome decal, even made it to the great white north without sled dogs. It will be going on the SS201 when she is near completion, if work will allow that to happen.

Thanks again Buddy.

I think mine is on a slow boat somewhere mid-pacific! :(

Still, gives me plenty of time to think of where I'll stick it. :)
