Hello,

Does anyone have a walk through with pictures for doing an oil change on the stringer drive. I have a 302 V8 so I assume I have the 800 series.

Also is mercury quick silver gear lube the right oil to use on this drive?

Oil change or gear lube change?

OMC 800 mechanical shift is what you have: There are two gear cases - lower unit = flat head screw on the bottom near the skeg, and another just above the cavitation plate (port side), which is the vent. Drain through the bottom, and fill through the bottom.

Upper unit = drain port on the side (starboard) just above the swivel, and a vent on the very top of the top cap. This one gets messy if you don't have the drive off. Drain and fill from the side port.

90 wt gear oil will do the trick in both.

Oil change is more like your car, but you need (probably) to pump the oil out of the oil pan.

Thank you, So the lower looks pretty simple, But the upper I'm a little lost on and cant see the ports. (drive was up and swim deck was covering it). does anyone have an pictures of where I should be looking?

Do I just feel both units with oil until it starts coming out the top ports?

It's best to check capacities in a manual (don't recall what mine were), but essentially - "yes, fill it up."
