Thanks it is stout, all cast aluminum.
Will use a backer of plywood for now.

Hi Mods, I went and put this question in the wrong thread.
I was wondering if you could move this Deck Cover question to my other thread

thanks
===============================================================

Ok, I'm back. Was busy using the boat all summer. Put 550 trouble free miles on it.

This spring I rebuilt the carb, replaced the distributor, resealed the upper drive, replaced the yoke, ujoints, gimbal, bellows, water pump, shift cable etc.
Also installed Smart Tabs to help me pop out of the water with a full load.

This weekend I'm going to pull the engine so I can get an early start next spring on replacing the transom.

This afternoon I removed the Aluminum Rear Deck Cover to make pulling the engine easier and in any case it has to come out anyway.

Has anyone altered the Deck Cover so it comes off easier/quicker? Or perhaps has a hinge at the stern end so it will flip up?
It would make working on the stuff back there way easier.

I have to agree with 64, the whole back deck is structural to the hull and transom

You guys are certainly right.
I just drove about 10 miles with all the rivets out of the panel and where my kicker is mounted it's bowed out about an inch!
