We just got this boat from Texas and now its in MO. The salt water has damaged the outside so bad we are not sure what color it is. Its our first boat, and we cant find any information on the company. It has an 85 hp evinrude, and we just need to know where to start.

Do they make a First time boat owners Dummy Guide" Because I would buy it. Just need to figure out what to replace or change since it came from the ocean. It was in the hurricane last year, and hasn't been started since before that. So far we know we have to replace the throttle cable but cannot get it unhooked from shifter. Its split out and cable rusted. Whats the best way to get rid of the saltwater damage to the hull.

We just want to fix or replace anything that the saltwater could have damaged. Inside engine, or boat so all suggestions welcome. We are still waiting on game warded to inspect trailer before we can even get in the water. TX doesn't title trailers, MO titles everything even the trolling motor!

Thanks in advance for any help on the terry boat or saltwater issues

Re: 1980 Terry Bass Boat where to start

sounds like a heap o trouble. Saltwater and hurricane are not words I prefer to mince when it comes to buying a boat ( might also be that I'm about as far from both as you can get up here in MN :) ).

Salt has a funny way of destroying things with a quickness. Chances are it's gotten inside the cable and swelled it in there. ( we do have salt up here...it's on our roads..does nasty things to our cars, particularly the bottoms ).

Where to start though? Start right here, at Iboats! Do some reading in the Evinrude section for the motor and how you can or can't bring it back to life, and what you shouldn't do so you don't destroy the motor ( chances are it got seawater inside of it and did some damage ).

Give us as much information as you can provide and we'll ask questions to get more information from you so that we can help you out to the best of our abilities.

First, tell us as much as you know about the history of the boat involving the Hurricane.

hi.....welcome to i boats !

this is the place and your with friends here.....

want the good news or the bad news first?

remember at this point....im only guessing.....but be prepaired to hear the words RE-POWER.

canes dont hurt the hull too bad,,,,damage to the hull can be fixed and made better than new...

but as far as the motor,,,,im not so sure they can be brought back from hurricane hospital. since the control cable is damaged....im guessing what is under the cowling was under the water.

the guys in the ob forum can giude you.....investigate and try and start your motor following thier instructions.

in the mean time, start looking for another motor.....they are around and some can be had reasonable......the vin plate on the port aft side by the transom....(at the back on the passengers side) will say the maximum hp that the hull can handle....you can go over a wee bit....but its not recomended.

i wish you all the best......good luck

cheers
