If you own a west bend (chrysler) then you will know what I am talking about. The engineering on the starter re-coil has GOT to be the reason Chrysler stopped making outboards.

Mine is a 4hp sea king, and the teeth on the swing-clutch won't grab the inside of the flywheel. I took the teeth off, and sharpened them on a grind wheel, better, but not good enough.

I tried tape on the inside of the flywheel, worked great, but tape won't stick.

I am stumped...... there are other poorly built components on this motor, but this is the worst I have ever seen.

any ideas??

buy an old dependable Eska and then watch ebay for Chrysler parts

Actually, that starter design was used on lawn mowers too...Clinton if I remember correctly. Yep they were kind of funky. I used to sharpen them too.
