Hi guys!

Swopped my ultralight for a bowrider ski-boat on the 23rd Dec 2005.
Fitted a brand new Merc Blackmax 17P prop. (I got the boat with a 17P prop, was just worn badly)
Replaced plugs.
Took it for it's first test run on a nearby dam(lake) a coupla days ago. Couldn't get full power.
Back home:
Checked for spark on all cylinders (All good)
Cleaned needles and seats
Used Carb cleaner spray as instructed.

Back on the dam/lake yesterday:
Much better performance. Top carb still flooding though. (Weird thing, when priming, the fuel doesn't leak out of the bowl overflow, it runs through the main jet and out the throat of the carb?) But the motor runs great when you starve it a bit by choking the vent on the fuel tank.

One thing that I did notice, the main jets are huge! I could stick the little(>2mm) pipe of the carb cleaner aerosol, straight through the main jets! Fuel consumption for the runs about 25liter/20-30mins! I'm sure this will improve when I sort out the needle on the the top carb. I'm hoping that the main jets are way too big aswell.

Can anyone supply me with the correct jetting for the engine? 6cyl, 2stroke, 3 carb.
Also, can I decrease the jetting sumwhat since I am at altitude? 4400ft asl.

And lastly, procedure for setting the timing on these engines. There are some stickers/castings on the motor itself that states (If I recall correctly) 176 deg btdc. Is this without any advance at idling? How many degrees should it advance to WOT then?

While, I'm busy with all this, is there anything else I should be checking that's notorious on these motors? Reed valves maybe?

At what rpm should the boat be running under WOT? 4500-4800? Or even higher?

Is there perhaps some online pdf or similar manual that I can download for this engine?

It sounds like you need to replace at lest the inlet needle on the top carb, don't tinker with things till you get that repaired, or you will be grasping at straws
