1981 115hp Rude prop question

I have a 1981 Ranger Basss boat, max capacity 1160 pounds including people, pushed by 1981 Rude 115 hp engine. The prop is a 13x19 and i would like to know if this would be the correct size for the engine. My son took the boat out without asking and it came back with a few good nicks in the blades of the prop as well as a tiny bend at the very end of one blade. How much will this affect the performance of the boat.

Nicks and bends are NOT good. It needs to be replaced and/or rebuilt.<br /><br />Choosing a prop depends on your rpm range. What is your top speed rpm now?<br /><br />Your engine should be able to run at least 5500 rpm with a moderate load.<br /><br />Each inch of pitch is good for 200 rpm's, up or down.

no tach on the boat, but it was running great with 2 people in it, approx 50 mph WOT. Gotta be careful though, with that boat, easily swamped by wakes.

Mike,<br /> I too have a Ranger bass boat withe a 115 Johnson . I just bought a back-up prop (Cabelas<br />hi performance 13.5 x 19 ) so I could send in my<br />OMC Raker 13.5 x 20 for some work. I can highly recommend them both. I believe most OMC 115 crossflows will use a 13.5 x 17-19 or 20 prop.<br /> I actually bought the Cabelas prop in a 19 pitch to see if it would help me with hole shot , but have to say the 20 raker is just as good maybe better.The 19 did increase my rpms<br />approx. 100 to 200 but oddly enough its at the midrange operation , WOT is about the same with both props, prop geometry not just pitch has a bearing on this. And what the heck model Ranger do you have that you have a stability problem? Every model I have been around are without a doubt some of the most seaworthy vessels afloat. oh yeah I run about 46 @ 5400 rpm but man I carry some serious weight ,three batteries , tackle and gear to the max etc.

Thanks DJ , sorry Mike I forgot to add the repair<br />cost. I just broke down and bought a back up<br />prop so I could stay on the water and thought you may be considering the same . Also this site<br />is an excellent place to shop for one , I did not intend to promote the sell of any product. I just wanted to give you some real world on the water experience with the only two props I have used on my setup.

Mike has an '81, which is propshaft, if yours is pre '85 tailfin, the prop numbers will be close.

it isnt a stability problem as much as it is the fact that there are large boats with very large wakes that would swamp me very easily out there in the intracoastal waterways heading for the flats. Thanks for the info on the props, i am going to buy a new one and have the existing one refurbished for a spare.
