Im trying to change the water pump on my 1981 Evinrude 115hp motor. I removed the 4 lower bolts and the larger one by the prop. I cant seem to get the lower end free to drop it down. Any suggestions?

Does anyone have a parts diagram to show the bolts to be removed in order to drop the lower end on a 1981 Evinrude 115hp OB?

I think ledgefinder intended to say the "trim tab", not the skeg. Trim tab is the little fin above/behind the prop under the cavitation plate. You'll find another bolt underneath the trim tab that needs removal.

Also, you'll have to disconnect the shift linkage in order to get the lower unit to drop. Linkage is typically underneath the bottom carburator on the powerhead. Can be a bit awkward to get at sometimes.

Finally, I'd get a manual. The few bucks you spend on it will be returned ten fold after just a couple repairs.

Good luck!

Seaman, you are refering to the 5/8" bolt above the prop correct?

There are two above the prop. The one under the trimtab is smaller than 5/8".
