My motor never revs above 4500, and It is such a pain in the butt to start, even after it's warm.
I will be crusing along at 4300 rpm and for some reason she'll drop to 3700,for a few minuts and then back up to 4300-4500.If I'm drifting and have to start up, when I put it into gear she stalls.
I changed the plugs, wires, fuel-lines,fuel water separater, any ideas

Howdy, Dog.

I suspect that you are running on less than 6 cylinders all the time and less than 5 part of the time.

Do a search for power loss at WOT and use those suggestions to find out if any, and which, cylinder(s) are dead.

Good luck. :)

How long has it been since a carb service/rebuild? Might be time . . .

Only my humble opinion . . .

Good luck, though!

Jason

Thanks Jason, and JB. But I don't know when the last time the carbs were serviced. Is this something I can do by myself? Is it very costly to have done? Is it worth it? I love the boat and want to convince the ol lady to spring for a new motor. But if fixing this one is cheep I'll do it

hey dog
You should stop by lindenhurst outboard and talk to Ralph. Might be worth the couple of bucks for him to look it over and guide you. He's very good and fair with his prices. Check out his web page @ www.theoutboardwizard.com. When you see the price of new motors, you'll probably agree!
Good luck....

check the ground on the coils. A bad grounded coil will cut out on you. Walker

Or the coil(s) are going, happened on my truck awhile back, ran great in the winter first spring day over 90 and it would stall dead, wait 20 minutes and it would run fine again. Shop changed injectors, emissions parts, no difference.Went on a hunch and laid a 5 lb. bag of ice on the coil as i was driving.
Could be a strong possibility for the symptom like JB said, running on 5 or 6.
