So all I have a question I had one of my boats on loan and they brought it back possibly ceased. The flywheel will not turn I have checked plugs and they look fine so I am just about to pull the head. I did just rebuild this motor a year and a half ago with a new top end. SO my question is if the bottom end let go would that jam the motor? I can put it in neutral and prop spins and when in gear it does not. This seems to be a motor problem, but before I pull the heads I would like some opinions on the bottom end question

could be the lower unit as you asked, pull the lower drain plug from the gearcase and see what comes out,if its nice clean oil I think its in the powerhead,if its watery metally gunk, its the lower likely, its very common for lower to lock up powerhead

Did the people who borrowed it give you any indication of what happened? Any noises, alarms, etc????

Did they put the fuel in it when the borrowed it? Did they know it is a 2 stroke?

You never know who knows what about motors.....

Yes, a siezed lower can affect the powerhead. You could actually go further-pull the whole lower unit. If the lower was locked up and you remove it, the engine should fire and run normally (but briefly.)

Better to find a salvage unit; the salvage yards have them.

I'll pm you a guy here in Ottawa who has dozens of lower units for sale, he bought out another marina and they came with the deal.

Thanks for the help with that

As another question I have been taking the bottom end apart, damn those snap ring's hurt without the right pliers.....

Anyways seems as thought the shaft bearing is ceased, how important are these specialty tools and who carries them other than a dealer
