1981 175 johnson o/b

on tilt and trim: how does the top of the hjydraulic cylinder shaft disconnect from the upper pinned sleeve. pin has never been removed and I am nervous about hitting on it. I am trying to remove the trim motor without disassembling it...can not get to the back trim motor base screw with out rolling the undercarraige out.

The pin will have keepers on it. Remove them and drive the pin out. If this is a salt water rig, may be difficult. Supporting the engine in the full up position will help take th load off the pin.<br /><br />Sometimes it takes heat application to get the pin out if it's really stuck.<br /><br />Also, I believe on that model, you will have to disconnect one of the transom brackets and let it slip outward to get the unit to fall out.
