I'm attempting to change the water pump for the first time this Tuesday coming up and service the lower end. Any tips or suggestions?:). I cant afford to take it to a shop anymore. hell i cant even afford the gas now a days. Any helpful links? vidoes? Thanks in advance.

you tube has some videos. I highly recommend a manual if you are going to be a DIYer. there should be 6 bolts holding your foot on, one is probably under your trim tab. do not forget to disconnect the shifter rod at bottom of power head in between the bottom 2 carbs. always rotate your drive shaft clockwise when putting your water pump housing over the impeller, I use grease to help, others use dish soap. get new washers for drain plugs when you change gearcase oil.

You can save your self a few bucks ordering that book online or even ebay. Get a oem shop manual not a seloc.

I cant find the shift rod screw. On the shop manual it shows it sticking out of the side but I dont have anything like that. I tired to upload a pic of the side of my motor but it keeps faling to upload.

WOW I found it. I could not believe how hidden it was!!! It took me 3 hours, 32 oz of gatorade, 16 oz of Sweet Tea, a couple of son of a bitches and raw knuckles to get it.

Yamaha motors do not make you do all that sillyness..just unbolt the foot and drop it..so easy a caveman could do it...why could OMC not have designed something like that...go figure..I am quickly becoming a yamaha fan.

O yea..get a pair of long needle nose pliers..I got mine from harbor freight..cheap and work great...can not work on an outboard with out them any more. first tool I grab.

LOL... I did the water pump. I refilled the gear lube. I slip it back up into the motor. Now I cant get that damn screw back into the shift rod. any suggestions other than taking it to the shop?

you need a 1/4 inch drive socket with a extension and auniversal and some electrical tape wrapped around the universal to stiffen up the universal. thats how i do mine

I did it!!!!!! It's all back together I fired her up and that water shot right out. Hooraaa! Thanks everyone that was a hell of a time. What should I do now..uhm......... Tell next time.
