From multiple web sites there telling me 1981. I have the opportunity to buy this motor one thing is the owner said he fogged the motor when he stored it 2 years ago on it's side when I put the motor on the boat some green oil and water came out of the water intake and from a little pee hole located near intake screen what could it be and is this normal from lying on it's side and being fogged? The motor did start once I primed the gas tank ball and put the choke on it took about 10 seconds to start so it did start I didn't have it in the water or earmuffs on so once it fired for two seconds I shut it off. the owner wants $900
So what do you all think?

besides the point is a 81 worth $900 if everything is good

In my area, yes. Even if it needs a reseal of the lower (most likely cause of LU lube out of intake screen).

I just sold a 83 35hp w/controls for 1200. I just sold an 84 70hp w/ controls and rigged for 2300. NW Lower Michigan.

Let either buyer fire them dry?

Scoob: My point was that you have NO IDEA what the seller let another buyer do when they might have come to look at the motor. Maybe they ran it for more then a couple seconds. Dry running isn't smart..

jbcurt00 My apologies. Didn't mean to offend. Of course I sold those as running motors and demonstrated under load. One on the boat, the other on the dyno.

I didn't take it that way, simply asked if you would have fired them dry, which effects value, at least to me. And I figured you hadn't fired them dry, ever..

Sort of a
what else has been done w/ this motor that isn't good for it's longevity....

no it has never been dry run before this seller lives beside me at the trailer it's been stored for almost two years I know this because it took us over a hour to clean the shed out to get at it
So there should of been no oil leaking out of intake screen being stored on it's side? and if no it's need to be resealed so basically reseal the bottom end new impeller?
Can someone direct me to a site that has free manuals for this motor the info of motor is on post 1
