Story was it was sometimes hard to start, problem was found to be they choke syn. so it was removed, yet never replaced.

This something I could do a temporary fix on just to get the motor started?

or a cheap perm fix, that ill have to flip a valve whenever needing to choke.

I mean, do you really NEED a choke on hot days?

It should have a red lever you turn to manually choke it. It may be missing also.
Gas will flow out of the open gas line that went to the solenoid when it starts. Try spraying gas/oil mix into the carb to start it.

Re: 1981 Evinrude 115hp missing choke

i have a johnson 115 '79 my choke solenoid melted and im having trouble locating one since its a dealer item or salvage item only. i havent found an after market yet but evin and john doesnt make one for mine anymore.

so i took a hose clamp put it on the manual choke lever attached a piece of clothes hanger to the clamp and drilled a hole through the cowl ( a small hole).

now i just reach back pull, turn the key ,when she fires, reach back push her in, fires right up. dont know how well this will work this winter when im catfishin but time will tell.

p.s. the solenoid itself is about $60 minus linkages
