1981 Evinrude 90 no take off power

I just replaced the timer base and rebuilt carbs and now this motor runs on all 4 cylinders and the plugs are burning good (tan colored insulators) but it takes forever to get on plane. I have the same prop that I had when it got up to plane real well. once it gets on plane, I can trim it up and get over 5000 rpm's. Taking off, I am lucky to get 3000-3500 rpms. It seems to have plenty of power once on plane. Could the timing cause this. Anyone have any ideas?

Did ya link & sync when you replaced the carbs?
Make certain that the timer base doesn't stick?
Does it die if you put the hammer down from a standing start?
Done a compression test recently?
I don't guess you moved any weight to the back of the boat........

No I didn't link and sync the carbs
the timer base doesn't stick
Idles fine and doesn't die when putting the hammer down from a standstill but only turns about 3000-3500 Rpm until I get on plane.
I did add an extra trolling motor battery in the back. Could that be enough weight to make that much of a difference?

I would think an extra battery in the stern would make a difference you'd probably notice, no way for me to know how much difference, I wouldn't expect it to be bad as you described.......but there is one good way to find out for sure ................

If it isn't the added weight, it'll be tough to troubleshoot until you've gone through the link & sync process per the manual.

Hi I have a 1981 90 Evinrude that i can't get to plain my 18 foot capice any thoughts on what i should check or do ?
