Hello all.
Anybody have any experience with an 81 Johnson 200 HP?
Owner says the power head was replaced several years ago and the motor has even compression on all six cylinders.
Probably not many of these were made yet still around?
Any known issues?
thanks

I ran an identical 79 200 for years. If he blew up the powerhead, what exact powerhead did he put back on it? Makes a big difference. Not many of these 200's around. (a real 200 or just a 150/175 block?) That 200 is an unusual duck. It's the same cubes as the 150/175, but the block is ported the same as the 235. It's a "high port" block. Makes it's hp a higher rpm's than the 150/175. Had large bore 1 5/16" carbs, and the rubber intake filler blocks- not found on the 150/175. Honestly, it's sluggish out of the hole (what with the porting), but once up in the rpm range, it will leave a 175 in the dust in a distance race. Mine made great hp all the way up to 6000. Best to check out the casting plug on the top of the engine. It will tell you the model/Serial number of your replacement block. See picture attached. model identification 1 small file.jpg This block is a 150S model meaning it's a hi perf XP or GT model.
