hey boat gurus! My wife's uncle is looking to get rid of a boat he bought last year and never had in the water. I spoke to him briefly yesterday and don't yet own a boat so I didn't know all the questions to ask, but here's what I got:

it's a 1981 Seabreeze (?)
about 14 feet (maybe, not sure... could be closer to 16)
50 HP outboard (no idea on make)

Anyway, I have not seen it yet since he lives out of town. I kind of want to have an idea of what this thing may be before going out there. Any searching I've done says Seabreeze was a Lyncraft name from the late 60's. What else could this thing be then?

Also, more general questions. It's only a 50 horse which will be fine for tubing with the kids, but likely won't get an adult out of the water for skiing/boarding. Where do I look on the boat to find the max engine size? Do you think something like this (assuming it's in decent shape and can just hit the water) is a good starter boat to get the feel?

edit: let me know if this is the wrong forum.

Re: 1981 Seabreeze?

Ayuh,.... I've personally skied behind a 28hp outboard motor,...
Granted, gettin' up took 2 skis,+ stoppin' the boat by leaning back on a slalom was easy......

With All the Info you don't have, it's hard to say if it's the Right boat or Not...
14' to 16' is a Huge difference....
Rot is always a factor in old boats...
Brand of outboard is also Important,... Gotta be able to get Parts easily...

Do some readin', probably in the General Boating forum, rather than here in the restoration forum...
This is where ya go After you've bought a Rotten boat,... ;) :D

Re: 1981 Seabreeze?

Hi- what you have there is not a Lyncraft Seabreeze - that company went out of business in 1976. John Baerveldt, the owner, was getting socked by a large increase in resin costs to the oil shortages at the time, so he just closed up his shop, sold the molds, and moved to Las Vegas.

I think your boat was made in California. The Sarasota Seabreezes were sold by BoatMart all up and down the East Coast.
If you go to the Fiberglassics.com site, there is catalog from 1970 posted in the Seabreeze section. I sent it to them. I am currently writing a short history of the LynCraft company and will be posting it when I get done.
