1981Evinrude 35 HP no spark

I have the above engine that I cannot get any spark from either plug. Can someone give me some help. I ran the motor just once last year without any problems and in prior years never had any issues.<br />Thanks<br />Tim

Check your kill switch and make sure that there is not an issue with that. Then check for corroded wires, and good connections all around. Is this motor a remote controlled, or tiller?

Kill Switch looks good and all wiring is clean and free from dirt.

It is a tiller type

Check to see if you get output from the power pack to the coils. Also check the power to the power pack. If all that checks out...Check the output from the stator to the power pack.

Sage..... There is a black wire leading from the powerpack to ground. Make sure that connection is clean and tight.<br /><br />Remove the black/yellow wire from the connector leading to the powerpack. That eliminates the kill circuit. If you now have spark, suspect a faulty kill switch. If still no spark, the usual cause is a failed powerpack.<br /><br />Note that it's a good idea to have a spare powerpack on hand and the tools to change it to avoid a spoiled outing..... meaning it's not a waste of money even if your present powerpack is okay.
