1982 90 hp johnson outboard cannot start

This is the first try to start this motor this season. I will start cleaning the carburetor first. The battery terminal was smoking too after I turned and hold the key for awhile

If the starter does not turn the motor fast enuff it will not have spark and will not start.

First check your compression and then your spark which should jump a 7/16" open air gap on a spark tester.

Ya, Thanks for the advice, here is a video of me trying to start my 1982 Johnson 90hp motor today, won't start so will clean the followings:
1. fuel filter
2. carburetor maybe?

that was quick, got it to start today amazing! WooHoo, will go fishing soon after registering this motor.
I will change the water impeller and rebuild the carburetor to be sure before I hit the water.
