Good morning guys, I've got the dreaded slipping under power. Turns out I machined my forward gear too much last year and removed the hardening on the surface. It lasted 1 season and started slipping badly. I'm replacing the forward gear, and due to the poor workmanship on the clutch dog, I was thinking a machine shop would have a hard time cutting clean lines and mating everything up correctly for even wear, so I'm thinking of getting a new clutch. This probably had something to do with premature gear wear as well. I found the OEM replacement clutch 816433T and costs ~$250. This supercedes the original part number on my 1988 125 (F84521-2). I found a part online that fits a 1982 125 for ~$100 but it has a slightly different part number (F84521-1). The full supercede chart is attached. My thought being, if both F84521-1 and F84521-2 were both replaced by the same part, then by deductive reasoning, F84521-1 and F84521-2 should be interchangeable. I know this doesn't apply completely to machine design changes as small differences can have a large impact on overall functionality. And perhaps the latest revisions of the clutch (816433T) took into account all the slightly different designs and blended them together, but I can't see these being all that different (without access to fab drawings of course). I'm wondering if there is any way to tell if this fits my lower, or if anyone has any experience with this. Thanks
