I have a 1982 Evinrude 90HP Model E90MLCIH that has no spark on one plug. the other three fire very well and occasionaly the dead cylinder will fire. I put a new coil and Power pack on the affected side and still hace the same problem. If anyone can offer ideas for my next step on diagnostics, I would like to hear it.

Thanks in advance,
Rich

Can the timer base single out one cylinder? I did a resistance test and one wire to the timer base appeared to be an open circuit. If so, where is the best place to find a timer base for this motor?

I've ordered a new timer base and will post as soon as it is fixed. I am fairly confident that this will resolve the issues that I am having.

Get yourself a good manual, preferrably a factory service manual. Get a decent digital multimeter (if you don't already have one) and start testing your outputs. You need to get a DVA adaptor for the multimeter to test peak voltage outputs. I'd start testing stator and trigger outputs before you install any parts. You may have more than one problem. You can test powerpack outputs as well but since you already replaced the pack and coil that is a bit pointless.

No updates as of today, I'm still waiting for the timer base to be shipped.

Upon replacing the timer base, adjusting timing and checking voltages and resistance readings, the engine starts and runs on all four cylinders again. Thanks for the replies.
