check your shifter connections, sounds like you need to adjust your new cable, you do this by turning the black round plastic thingy that is near the end of your shifter cable on the motor side. as for your tilt and trim, check all electrical connections at the relays, you can try jumping the power wires to test and see if a relay is bad..also make sure your hydrolic fluid if full.

Your engine has the old style remote trim/tilt box under the boat spashwell. In the box is a fuse and a single solenoid. The solenoid is only activated when the switch is in the "up" position. When going down, all current just goes thru the control box trim switch. If it goes down, but not up- check the solenoid. Does the solenoid click when the switch is moved to the up position? There should be a trim box wiring diagram inside the box cover.

Adjusting the shift cable can be done in the following manner, once the shift rod height is properly adjusted; see: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=334462&highlight=shift+height

Remove the spark plugs.

The cable should be disconnected at the engine with the control in neutral.

Shift the motor using the shift lever at the engine from neutral to forward and check the propeller to determine that it is locked. Turning the flywheel clockwise should turn the propeller clockwise.

Shift the motor to reverse using the shift lever at the engine. Turning the flywheel clockwise should turn the propeller counter-clockwise.

Return the motor to neutral and assure that the propeller is turning freely.

Push the control handle fully forward and back to neutral and stop.

Without moving the shift lever, adjust the cable to the shift lever using the black cable trunnion so that the cable slips on easily and reconnect.

make sure you are getting spark on all 4 cylinders, could be as simple as controller not engaging neutral switch. if no spark, unplug the big red plug connection, jump starter solenoid and check spark.

Are you pushing the key in to activate the primer solenoid while cranking the engine?

Be sure to use the primer solenoid and have the battery fully charged so that you can turn the necessary 300 RPM to fire the ignition system.
