I have a problem starting this engine this year and I am very eager to get my boat in the water as it is already mid-June, so any advice will help. And all the mechanics are busy around town and need some answers.

Recently I found out there was only a spark on one cylinder and have come to find out the powerpack was the issue. I installed that yesterday and tested for spark and got spark on all three cylinders. Now the engine still wont start with a fresh tank of gas and the correct measure of oil. I have sprayed Starting Fluid into the carbs and this will start the engine and run it for a few seconds but will not keep it running off the gas. I would guess its something to do with the fuel but I'm not sure.

Very frustrating when i just bought a new powerpack and it still won't start...Thanks in advance for any help!

you do not wanna use startin fluid as there is no oil in it . you can ruin your cylinder walls and piston rings using it.try mix gas an oil in a water bottle and use that squirting in in the carb throat it sounds like u need to pull the carbs and clean them thoroughly

Ok, so I sprayed the pre-mixed gas and oil into the carbs and cranked it and it started for a few seconds then died again so i'm guessing the problem is the fuel getting to the carbs.?.? Could anyone verify this, because I am going to have to take all the fuel lines off and check them for any clogging if this is true.?

pull the line that goes to the carbs from the fuel pump. crank engine. if fuels is is squirting out then the fuel pump is fine and ur carbs need a serious cleaning

It was a rebuilt engine as of the beginning of last season so I didn't think that could be the case. I did though eventually start it by cleaning out the fuel filter screen, then spraying some more fuel-oil mix into the carbs, and screwing the air silence cover back on the base assembly(only know thats what its called because I looked it up on a diagram from http://www.**********/parts/search/BRP/EVINRUDE/1982/E70ELCNB/INTAKE%20MANIFOLD/parts.html#

Then I tried starting it, it started and kept running. AWESOME! And now I have it in the water and drove it around without any problems.

Thanks for the help busted-bayliner!
