1982 in line 6 Stator part Numbers 2 types

Ok so today I pulled the stator and put a new one on but noticed that they were some what different. The part numbers for the old one was 3985454A9 when I looked up for the year and SS number in parts book it gave me 174-5454-16 so now I am wondering if this is the wrong stator or just a replacement part.

What is the s/n of your engine?

The parts manual for a 1982 115hp lists 5454A17 as the correct stator which is an upgraded version of your 398-5454A9.

The CDI stator for the same engine is 174-5456 which replaces 398-5454A2, A6, A7, A8, A9, A17, A18 and A55.

Yes, that s/n comes up as a 1982.
