Re: 1982 johnson 115 rebuild question
i appreciate the input, but, i'm not talking about the piston end of the rod, i'm talking about the crank end. i.e. the crank end, installing rods and there is wear side to side where the rod journals bolt up, the bearing wear is ok. not where the bearings will run, but the "side clearance" if u inverted the crank outside of the block and installed the rod, you would have movement up and down where the rod bolted to the crankshaft. thanks again guys, maybe its me not understanding boat terminalogy, since my background is small diesel, gas burner engines, automatic transmissions, and a/c compressors, this is my first attempt at a 2 stroke outboard and i don't want to fail now if u know what i mean, my experience tells me either this crank needs replacement or it can be machined and thicker rods(side to side) can be installed, since there is actual wear. i'm, i guess its my checkbook thats scared about this, i've spent 650.00 on the motor, ran it once going to spend 500.00 to bore and new pistons, gasket set 135.00, carb rebuild 60.00 and if crank needs replacement 550.00, and i haven't even paided myself. maybe i'm over my head. i sure hope not! once again i thank u guys for this outlet and all the information!!!!!!
