1982 Johnson 70 - weeping trim piston end caps

Hi Folks,

I have just replaced the '0' ring at the base of the trim/tilt motor housing and cleaned up the seat because it was leaking. All went well and leak has gone.

Now though, I have noticed, not a leak - that sounds too much - but a slight weeping around the endcap of the starboard trim ram end cap - not the rod/piston - no leak there - just the end cap threads.

Here's the questions,

1. I can see all of the part numbers in the exploded diagram, but due to lack of experience I don't know which ones I need
2. Can I buy a kit - with all the bits in under one part number?
3. Are all these bits - 'o' rings, seal, wipers etc. standard off the shelf hydraulic items or outboad specials?

Any help from someone who has done this would be appreciated. The 'Good Book' says this should not be a tough job - if only the end cap comes out - is that about right?

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

G'day

Low

Bombardier makes a trim o-ring kit for your trim unit. 5000309. It will come with all the parts you need, with a ton left over. You might be better off just purchasing the orings and the wiper/seal-separately-it's probably cheaper. You can look up your own parts on the factory website: epc.brp.com. The end cap will come off by itself with a simple automotive type spanner wrench and replacing the parts is not difficult.
