This forum is great! Finally a place to discuss and research the older boats.

Last week in a very stupid move on my part I put a large deep scratch in my 1982 Red Stars and Stripes. It went through the clear coat and the metal flake pinstripe. The fiberglass shop I am working with cannot find a large enough flake size to match the red metal flake and Mastercraft does not have paint records that go back that far. By chance would anyone know a paint number or the color and size of flakes used or point me in a direction where I could find the information?

Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you,

Andy

wow,,,,,****ty !

welcome to iboats by the way,,,,,,.

we have a few pros here that may possibly be able to help.
ill pm a few for you.

we need a few pics of the damage area....the gellcoat repair shop is really going to charge for that one!

i just told a customer with a centurion to forget repairing his....a 4 color thin stirpe gellcoat including a flake and clear....
that repair would have cost over a thousand bucks and no gaurentees.....he wanted it repaired to sell the boat.

Thank you for your reply opps!

It is going to be expensive, already have a quote from a fiberglass shop in Gainesville GA. that came highly recommended. Within reason I am willing to pay what is needed to fix the boat. It does have sentimental value and I have good insurance. This photo does not do the boat justice, it was taken in a semi-lit garage at night. The boat is in excellent shape except for the damage I have done to it.

82,
Did you do that on the dock at Balus??? Just looks like something, almost exactly, that I did to a Chaparral I had a few years back.
Have you talked to these guys??? In Buford.

Ridepate,

No I never made it to the water that day, 7/4/11. This is the result of losing the tread on a trailer tire on GA 400, trying to get off onto an exit and into an area where where I could change a tire and then the tire blowing as I came around gas pumps. Combine that with me being scatterbrained and frustrated and this is the result. All in all just bad judgement on my part. Makes me ill every time I look at the side of my boat.

Superior Fiberglass in Gainesville came highly recommended but I will certainly chack out the link you provided. I think the major problem is finding the correct red metal flake.

Thanks,
Andy

I would check out CG for sure.
Understand the scatter-brain stuff. Been there, done that. Don't blame ya for trying to get off 400 either, not a safe place to change a tire!!!!!!!!
