1982 MR 180

[redneck joe]

had some lunch on the water deep in a cove. so quiet, carp were loving the high water.

[redneck joe]

got rained out while working on the trolling motor mount. I'm using existing holes thru the bow - 1/2" starboard on the top with 1/4" on the bottom under the bow. Then have countersunk bolts coming up for the mount. Hopefully get done today after rain moves thru

and it is in.

[redneck joe]

I got a 55 lb thrust. might be able to ski behind it.

[redneck joe]

Well tried out the electric motor with the extension on it. Forgot to take into account the rise of the mount. Ads about 8" overall. Looks like going to have to get another extension.....

Lots to go wrong with them that's for sure.

Oh great, I have 2 of those. And not all of the parts.

[redneck joe]

Lots to go wrong with them that's for sure.

That would prob explain why my front piece is blue and the rest is brown.

Got a shift issue. Goes in gear and was able to idle home but a bit more stiff than it was but only idle speed. The linkage under the hood all seems to be working. Any thoughts on that?

[redneck joe]

Going to live with the leak until fall when brother come in and we'll get floor out and all done in the week he is here. I'll start another thread on that but for history here is the leak thread.

leaking riveted starcraft ('82 MR180)

ok kids - got the boat last year, new it had a leak, found 5 or 6 rivets that were leaking (mostly just a slow seep) so replaced those. Blind rivets with ample 4200. Found by putting a good amount of water in the thing with the plug in. Still have my leak. Never thought much about it as I...

Looks like I'm going grab the 75 so linking that thread here to my main one.

1987 mercury 75

$450, turns over but not running because he cut all the wires. I should just be able to hook up wires to start? If not prob still get it for that kind money and take a chance. Will do compression and check for water in lower unit oil. Anything else particular to these I should know?

Hot day but spent a couple hours cleaning up foam chips and wood splinters and fishing jigs etc.

Hoping to drag to the lake in the morning and see what's obvious before I do more scraping and washing 42 years of gas and oil.

[redneck joe]

Planning on hooking the livewell back up, assuming I should use a fuel line since all that will be laying in the bilge?

[redneck joe]

Unpredictable storms today so stayed home and decided to run some dawn soap in the bilge and do some scrubbing.

Then decided to run to home depot for some stuff but take the boat so the water could do some additional scrubbing for me.

Unintended consequence as I hit the highway:

Just imagine a pos 30 year old Ford dragging a 43 year old boat down the road with giant plumes of soap suds flying out the back.

It was epic.

Updating main thread with side ones

helm wiring, should be simple, i'm not too bright.

Decided to put in a fuse block for my three items that need it to replace the two 43 year old circuit breakers. I want to use old wiring but some became disconnected during my rehab. I have a red, two blacks and two greys. The greys remained hooked up to the nav lights and i just jumped...

I'm sad, need new gps

I saved my old garmin (about 12 years old) from my last boat. The transducer was shot in the head by a submerged 2x8. I only saved the unit, no power and transducer. Found a transducer on ebay no prob but no power so looks like I'm in for a new one. If anyone has a single pin cord for...

Trim pump question

Slowly drops when on trailer, quickly drops when in use. Manual states to check fill i need to loosen vent screw specifically two turns then the end of the instruction tells me to leave screw open. Why would I have to loosen if it is already loosened?
