I just bought the boat in the title and it has several soft spots in the floor. Does anyone out there have any experience with this particular boat? Anyone know what the floor is made of and what underneath might look like? I am getting the impression after doing a lot of reading that the floor, stringers and foam will most likely need to be replaced. Any suggestions in that area?

Re: 1982 Procraft 1400

I have seen this site and have tucked it away for "reference". I cut a bit of the glass coated wood floor away last night. Actually, poke holes in it with a putty knife is more like it. The "soft" spot was only being held up by the glass that covered it. So begins my rebuild of the floor and stringers. One thing I did notice was that the stringers appear to be coated in fiberglass. This seems odd to me for a boat his age as most of the pictures from restore projects show bare wood. Is it better to coat all new stringers in a fiberglass wrap? Also, how do the stringers attach to the hull or do they just lay in there? Of the projects I have seen no one mentions that little tidbit.

you put a bed of resin, set the stringer, then glass it to the hull. there are many post on it, and many how to's on the web.
