Just got this used boat. Any one know where to get a owners manual and service manual for it? It has dual 4cyl I/O if that makes a differance. Anyone have the owners manual that they would want to share?

I tried that. They said they do not have the owners manual for that boat.

Anything I have ever needed,Rick at Regal has been able to help me with.I have had several Regals. There were big changes made between 1982 and 1984 so I may be able to answer some of your questions but all of my experience has been from 1984 and on.Charlie

Thanks for the offer Charlie. LEt me through a couple at you.

1: On the dash there are a green and red lighted button. When they are on the buzzer goes off. What are they?

2: Should both drives go into reverse?

3: How do you get rid of the sewage?

4: On the side of the boat there is a twist lock plug. Is that a 20amp 110? When that is pluged in does it run lights and all the other things on the boat?

Thanks. I have never had a boat but I can fix and work on alot of electrical, and mechanical equipment but it helps to know how it is suppose to work.

Thanks

P.S. If you wnat to do this over e-mail here is mine. jlwest63@yahoo.com

#1----Don't know. Are these "lighted buttons" just indicator lights or are they switches that you can push ? If just indicator lights, I am going to guess they show the condition of the engine room fire suppression system.

#2 yes, both drives should shift between forward and reverse.

#3 There should be a deck cap on the side of the boat labled "WASTE" this is where you would connect to a pump out station at a marina. The boat may also be equipped with a MACERATOR (look at your breaker panel for a switch labled as such) a macerator will grind the waste and pump it out under the boat...ILLEGAL IN MOST US WATERS.

#4 The twist lock plug is a 30 amp 110v recepticle that connects to a shore power cord which will mate with the power sockets at most marinas ( they also use a slightly different connector for 220volt systems...make sure you are trying to connect to the right one....don't force it). You can also purchase an adapter that will connect to your boat or shore power cord and allow it to plug into a regular home type of outlet (incase you are working on the boat at home). Your boat should be equipped with a combination battery charger and converter that will supply power for your 12volt systems. Please be aware that some systems such as the refrigerator may be dual voltage units, they run on both 12V and 120 volt. Make sure the shore power is disconnected when working on things like this....you could get shocked.

Re: 1982 Regal 245xl

Sounds like you got a few of your questions answered already. The green light I have had on the dash of my Regals is a light which tells you if your battery systems are charged or not.The red may be a battery parralel which would let you switch over to a good battery momentarily if the one for that engine was dead. When you plug in to the side of the boat you will need a 30 amp shore power cord or an adapter. When you are plugged in the batteries will charge if you are equipped with a charger.Regal does not run the fridge through the shorepower when you are plugged in.It always runs through the battery so the lights are the same way.If you have outlets in the boat they will be turned on when you are plugged in if you turn on the outlet switch on the breaker board. As far as the drives are concerned they should both go fwd and reverse.Post any other questions.Charlie

Great info. Here is another question.

The battery switchs, I have three of them. They have off, 1, all, and 2 on them. What are the different positions for and why 3?

I will add a PIC of the buttons soon.

Re: 1982 Regal 245xl

3 battery switches?????How many batteries do you have?????Usually there is 1 switch for a pair of batteries. The 1 means the #1 battery is being used and the 2 means the #2 is being used and all means both are being used.Off shuts all the batteries off.NEVER SWITCH TO THE OFF POSITION WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING!!It is usually good to use 1 battery as a primary and switch over to the reserve battery if you have a dead battery any time.Charlie

Re: 1982 Regal 245xl

I am going to take a guess on the battery wiring.
I had a 1991 regal 290 with twin 5.7L. It had three batteries with simple on-off switches. Each engine had it's own starting battery and the house
(cabin lights, fridge, etc) had a seperate battery. Sounds like you have the same set-up, only you have the option to switch which battery is used for each system (engine1, engine2, house).
I looked at the pics of the large lighted buttons and am totally stumped, maybe Charlie or someone else might have an idea.
